More than Self-sustaining, Off Grid Living Ideas

"Unity Through Community"

The Old Idea

I started out about a year ago with the idea to create a one of a kind place that is luxurious, beautiful, and Stylish as well as Self-Sustaining and in balance with the natural environment where this commune/community is located. There lies a balance there somewhere. This idea is a place that will grow, produce or manufacturer most of what is consumed there. It will generate all of the energy it needs from varies sources such as Wind, Solar, Bio-fuel, and whatever else we as the human race can come up. It will grow its own food not only for itself but it will grow food for the community around it. The goal is to make as little impact on the environment as possible. By promoting all guest, staff and residents to reuse and recycle.

Along with the food and energy production we would like to create a place that promotes spiritual grow and understanding. This place will focus on the teachings service to other not service to self. We will try to instill a focus on community and we hope that it well grows beyond out little community to the local city, county, state, country and then the world. We hope to create a revolution in thinking and in life style. We need to get back to a way of thinking that is community driven and out the needless ME, ME, ME, or I, I, I mind set.

When I first wrote this I did not know there was a great movement out there that had the Ideals of what I was trying to create. The Ubuntu Movement is a Social Political Idea of a world without money. It has a mantra that follows;

  • NO money;
  • NO barter;
  • NO trade;
  • The land and resources belong to everyone equally;
  • Everyone contributes their natural talents or acquired skills to the greater benefit of all in the community.
  • Everyone’s contribution is seen as being a vital part of the whole, and therefore is equally valuable as any other contribution.

This is what I was trying to come up with. What I found working on my idea is that I was thinking too small. In order for this to work the larger community will have to be involved. But the idea of a resort inside of the larger Ubuntu community is a good idea. Developing a micro community inside the larger? That is an idea a place where people learn how it all works.

The New Ubuntu Vision

We have a vision to create a one of a kind community that is luxurious, beautiful, and stylish as well as self-sustaining. A community that is planned and built to be in harmony with its natural environment. As much as possible this community will grow all the food it consumes and more. This abundance or oversupply of food will be made available to its surrounding communities. Local manufacturing will return to the people, producing beautiful skillfully crafted high quality products.

The Ubuntu community will generate all of the clean energy it needs from various sources such as Wind, Solar, Bio-fuel, and whatever else our brilliant scientist can develop. Energy that will have as little of impact on the environment as possible or no impact! The possibilities are unlimited. Creating a community that follows the universal laws of nature and the natural flow of our environment. Promoting all to reuse and recycle.

Along with the food and energy production we will create a community that supports one's own spiritual growth and understanding. A community that understands the benefit of the saying; be in service to others not in service to self. We will focus on creating a life of cooperation, unity, abundance and prosperity for all. When others see us enjoying our beautiful lifestyle, our joy and happiness we expect it will rapidly expand out into the city, other counties, state, countries, and then the world. We intend to add to the revolution in thinking and in life style that is already happening in the world. The people will return to a higher way of thinking human beings come first, community projects second, and a common question of how may I be of service to you?

The Goal and the Mission

The Goal:

This was the original goal: “The goal is to build a homestead/commune that is also a luxury vacation rental, Retreat, Sanctuary, place of healing and relaxation. All based on a lifestyle of self-sufficiency where we grow the food we eat, produce the power we need, and recycle, reuse, and limit our waste to as close to zero as we can get. This homestead will also be a none-profit that gives back to the community that it is in. One of the ways we would give back is that any food that we did not consume or sell would be given to the homeless or needy in the area. We could give jobs, food and shelter to those that need it.”

The idea has grown to not just being self-sufficient but to being a community of Abundance where we as a whole live without money, and no value attached to anything greater than anything else. Where everyone contributes to the greater good of the whole community. The Ubuntu ideals are what we should how we are living our lives. Where we are free to create, to live, to move, where we are in balance with nature. Please see Ubuntu Planet and Ubuntu Party for more information.

The Mission:

To change the world from the salve state of money to a world of abundance that provides a healthy, safe, self-sufficient, and Beautiful world in balance with nature for all the people of the world. And the ability to go and visit, live and work anywhere they want. That is in harmony with the natural environment as well as each other. A world were we helps to provide for the kids, aged and the mentally ill by giving them whatever they might need food, shelter, clothing, counseling, or just a hand with everyday things. This world would not have Homeless or Hungary people as long as they contributed to the community.

Life Style Changes

In the beginning I was thinking that this was the way for a small community but like I have said I was thinking too small. I still think that homesteading is a good thing but we need to do it on a much bigger scale. All the houses in the community should have some scale of homesteading it may be as little as just energy independent. But we do not just want to be this remember we want to do this in the whole community where everyone works together for the betterment of the community. It is Service to others not Service to the Self. Here is what Homesteading is and what we want to do on a city level not just a house hold.

Homesteading is a lifestyle of self-sufficiency. It is characterized by subsistence agriculture, home preservation of foodstuffs, and it may or may not also involve the small scale production of textiles, clothing, and craftworks for household use or sale. Pursued in different ways around the world — and in different historical eras — homesteading is generally differentiated from rural village or commune living by isolation (either socially or physically) of the homestead. A homestead is the household compound for a single extended family. In the UK, the term 'smallholder' is the rough equivalent of 'homesteader'.

Modern homesteaders often use renewable energy options including solar electricity and wind power and some even invent DIY cars. Many also choose to plant and grow heirloom vegetables and to raise heritage livestock. Homesteading is not defined by where someone lives, such as the city or the country, but by the lifestyle choices they make.

Healthy living:

We will aim to provide the best healthy living for the people in the community. By growing the best organic foods, we can. Giving the people the best health care for free with evaluations of the individual needs. Also by developing the best in health care Technology. When it comes to diet one person might need a vegan diet while another might need meat and Potatoes. It will all be based on the needs and wants of the people.

"Be in service to others not in service to the self"

Back when I starting bringing the Ubuntu ideas in to my heart and soul I realized that we will live a life of charity every day. That well will always be looking out for our neighbors and the community as if it were our own family. We will always be in service to others not the self. Because if it is not good for one it is not good for all. This is a big part of what the world needs to become. In the world today there is too much of the service to the self not to others and it shows in the greed, materialism, and selfishness of the world. We will follow the golden rule of do on to others as we would want them to do on to us. In Ubuntu we will not take more than what we need to maintain what we have and GIVE all the extra to whomever needs it.

Spiritual Teaching and Health:

The great thing about Ubuntu is we will have the time to study and grow in a spiritual sense We will be "Inclusive" not "Exclusive" we will welcome all peace loving people. Anyone with an open mind is welcome to come and share it the idea as long as they are will to contribute to the community by sharing their natural Talents and their learned skills. We hope to have Master teachers in all areas to help teach and guild people to the achievement of their best. All religions will be welcome but they will not be about to push their beliefs on anyone we will welcome an open discussion about what it all means. There will be true Freedom to study all aspects of religious and spiritual teachings.

Cutting Edge Technology:

One of the greatest things about the Ubuntu idea it that it will encourage people to invent new technology that will be shared with all. Not just hidden away because it will threaten the profits of the company or industry that it will replace. We will give the needed resources to anyone that needs them to come up with the newest and greatest thing that will last a life time not just a few years so they can SELL us more. We want to develop the most cutting edge tech that we can to make the farms, restaurants, stores and the world so they run the most efficient. We can us automation for watering and feeding in the farms alone with climate control. And there are a million more ideas that we have not come up with yet to make our dreams a reality.

I have not seen any rule that says you cannot have Luxury and a homestead that is in balance with nature. I have seen a lot of small homes and homesteads and they are living as if they were in the 1800's. why does that have to be? I do not think that we have to sacrifice modern living to have self-sufficiency or a homestead. Like everything there is a balance.

To be in balance with nature we need to stop wasting the natural resources of mother earth. This will be one of the High Tech things that the community will come up with in the future. This is the way of the future and nature everything; that everything has more than one use.

Recycling is the process of converting waste materials into reusable objects to prevent waste of potentially useful materials, reduce the consumption of fresh raw materials, energy usage, air pollution (from incineration) and water pollution (from landfilling) by decreasing the need for "conventional" waste disposal and lowering greenhouse gas emissions compared to plastic production. Recycling is a key component of modern waste reduction and is the third component of the "Reduce, Reuse and Recycle" waste hierarchy.

One of the ways we might recycle is for all bio waste to be turned into a reusable form whether it is a compost or turned into a bio fuel. Also to use a little of NONE reusable items as we can. Example very little if no plastic bottles and containers that cannot be reused. Paper Products are better because they can be composted or used to make a bio fuels.
